Linda Bloomfield Glaze Chemistry Masterclass

$480.00

THE COURSE:
Linda’s teaching style emphasises understanding the underlying chemistry, empowering you to troubleshoot and experiment confidently in your own practice.
Your test tiles will be kiln fired overnight, allowing the group to examine and discuss the results on the 2nd day.
This immersive workshop is a rare opportunity to learn directly from a leading figure in the field, whose knowledge has influenced both contemporary ceramic art and glaze education globally.
DAY 1:
  • Learn to combine materials to create a base glaze, practising accurate measuring, mixing and sieving to achieve uniformity in texture and composition.
  • Understand the materials used and how to read and follow a glaze recipe.
  • Create unique glaze recipes by experimenting with variations by adding different colouring oxides to a base glaze and preparing test samples.
  • Gain an understanding of health and safety guidelines to ensure safe handling of glaze materials for yourself and others.
DAY 2:
  • Begin the day with a deeper dive into the science behind glazes.
  • Explore the role of various materials, how they are categorised and the chemical interactions that result in different surface finishes post firing.
  • Review the outcomes of your test tiles from Day 1, analysing the results as a group to understand the effects of your experiments.
KEY INFORMATION:
  •  2 day masterclass from 10am to 4pm each day.
